Depending on the use to which it is put, bronze develops a patina in the course of time and darkens in colour, giving the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Spitfire its own unmistakable character. A soft-iron inner case effectively shields the movement from magnetic fields. After three months, there hasn’t been a ton of patina developed, just a fairly even slightly darker layer that adds some nice character to the bronze. The exception is the crown and pushers, which obviously get a lot more oil from fingers and have gotten a little darker. Selling my treasured IWC Spitfire Chronograph Bronze as part of a collection rotation. The green and the bronze go perfectly together. The patina has evolved over the years – I included an early photo so you can see how it looks if you decide to reset the patina.

I’m actually glad I took a lot of photos, but it would have cool to take a daily photo in the same position and make a time lapse video and watch watch the evolution that way. I don’t think I’ll ever reset it, but if I do, I’ll for sure do that next time.
